Clock Tower, 2025

Acrylic and oil on canvas, article printed and framed

Part of the curated section Apocalypstick by By and By at NAP+, Central Markthal, Amsterdam

The site-specific work Clock Tower considers the former clock tower of the Central Markthal in Amsterdam through painting. Once a landmark, a timekeeper and a navigational device for the neighborhood, the tower was demolished in the 1980s after its concrete began to decay.

The work draws its inspiration from the article Klokkentoren Centrale Markthal herbouwen in De Westkrant, as well as from various forum discussions, which describe the importance of the disappeared clock tower for the residents of the neighbourhood, and their desire for its return.

By reimagining the tower through painting, the work brings back this lost landmark as both memory and ghost.
