I am a Finnish artist currently based in London, where I am doing an MA in painting at the Royal College of Art, supported by Cultuurfonds. I make figurative paintings -drawing from field-based research, photographs, memories, and archival material- alongside which I often write. The paintings always, or at least almost always, return to questions of memory and place, referring often to their own paintingness, their context, as well as to literature and art history. As of late I’ve been particularly interested in painting’s relation to photography, and in photography’s relation to memory.
